About Us
Forty years ago, when our older girls were born, the “go-to” lotion for babies was, of course, a beautiful pink, luscious-smelling concoction. I don’t have to name the brand. You know the one. No doubt, through the years we purchased gallons of it. I could never get enough. I really didn’t realize that it was mostly made up of chemicals! In 2012, we were in China picking up our sixth internationally adopted child. We were simply not prepared to deal with the skin condition he had. Pink lotion would never do for his troubled skin! About five years prior to picking him up, I had been diagnosed with a stubborn form of hand eczema, so I was familiar with problem skin! The doctor prescribed all sorts of medicines and creams, but the strange thing was, the ingredient in most of them was propylene glycol, (one of the things I had tested allergic to!)
Two years, (and two more China Dolls), later, with quite a few mouths to feed and lots of energetic children, we decided farming would be a wonderful way to incorporate hard work and basic life skills. We bought a 77-acre farm with lots of room for running, playing, and for certain, plenty of opportunity for hard work. I had made goat cheese for several years and we all loved it so much, but when our son’s skin condition became almost unbearable, I began researching natural alternatives to the soaps and lotions we were using. The top answer was surprisingly, goat milk soap! Goat milk? Something we already had plenty of! It has been an awesome adventure in soap-making the last ten years and I’ve loved every bit of it! We’ve seen incredible improvements in everyone’s skin!
Randy and I were talking one night about how to instill a good work ethic in our children and really teaching them to be entrepreneurial young people. It’s an incredible thought to wake up each day excited about what you get to do that day! We have quite a variety of animals on our farm, but we especially love our Nubian goats, and we love the milk they provide. Through the years, it’s been healing for our family both inside and out! It dawned on my sweet husband that our soap and other goat milk products might be a blessing to others who were struggling with skin problems or maybe to those who just like luscious lather when they bathe or maybe to those who simply like to feel clean and smell good! That’s how Robin’s Nest Soapery was born! It’s our heart’s desire that everything, (from the way we formulate our products, to the crafting, curing, and wrapping of our soaps), be done heartily as unto the Lord God. May all we do bring glory to His name! He’s given us the amazing goats who give so much of themselves for us.
